Why are people on the left so intolerant of people's opposing views?

I've actually been physically assaulted simply for wearing a T-shirt with an image of Ronald Reagan on it. I can't help but wonder if all those fools who wear Che Guevara on their shirts worry about being assaulted like I now do.
