When your baby was really little, how did you take them into places?

We always wore our baby when she was little...first in a sling, then bjorn, then ergo. She didn't like being in the stroller (bassinet attachment) when she was little and we don't have a car so she was rarely in a car seat. Honestly, I don't understand why people would lug the heavy car seat around when they could just wear the baby.
